Welcome to the POTOMAC VALLEY THUNDER Basketball Team website!
Formed in the spring/summer 2012, the POTOMAC VALLEY THUNDER basketball team is comprised of young female athletes graduating high school in 2019 (6th grade = 2012-2013). The POTOMAC VALLEY THUNDER is a member of the Potomac Valley Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) region and the national AAU organization. A majority of the players reside in and around the Bethesda, Maryland and Washington, DC area.
Our team philosophy is based on these key principles:
SKILL DEVELOPMENT: The coaching staff and trainers are dedicated to improving the skills of each player.
TEAMWORK: Basketball is a team sport. The most successful teams have all five players working as one cohesive unit.
SPORTSMANSHIP: The players will respect each other and our competition.
FUN: Kids are traditionally attracted to basketball primarily because it is fun. We intend to keep it fun.
These key principles are the foundation of POTOMAC VALLEY THUNDER. We will work to improve our skills, work as a team, show good sportsmanship, and have a good time, all while competing at a high level.
2012-2013 SEASON
Fall / Winter The POTOMAC VALLEY THUNDER basketball team Fall/Winter season will run from September 2012 through March 2013. This season we are competing in the following tournaments and leagues:
- AAU Flames Fall League (Sep-Nov)
- AAU Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov)
- AAU December Holiday Tournament (Dec)
- AAU Potomac Valley Winter League (Dec-Feb)
- Rising Stars Winter League (Dec-Feb)
- Rising Stars March Madness Tournament (Mar)
Spring / Summer The POTOMAC VALLEY THUNDER basketball team Spring/Summer season will run from March 2013 through July 2013. This season we are competing in the following tournaments and leagues:
- AAU Flames March Madness Tournament - District Heights, MD (Mar 16-17)
- AAU Fairfax Stars Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament of Champions - Fairfax, VA (Apr 6-7)
- AAU 9th Annual High Octane Spring Fling Tournament - Frederick, MD (Apr 20-21)
- AAU Freedom Challenge IV Tournament - Loudoun County, VA (Apr 27-28)
- AAU Potomac Valley District Qualifier (May 11-12, 18-19)
